Bird TV

Standard

I live on the third floor and have a wonderful view of trees and buildings and cars and sun. There are tons of birds around, sparrows, starlings, pigeons, crows, geese and an occasional seagull. Seagulls don’t come around much because they are scavengers and head toward the garbage heaps about four miles from here.

Geese and crows eat worms and bugs and don’t like bread too much.

Pigeons are fat and lazy and keep themselves at train stations and odd cement squares that separate forks in the road.

So we are left with sparrows and starlings mostly. There are so many in the winter and less in the spring because in the spring there are loads of tasty bugs to be had.

It is now winter and these little fat birds are hanging around in abundance on the wires and posts and roof tops outside my window.

I get around to feeding these marvels at seven in the morning. At least fifty birds are waiting and another twenty five stop by after the initial feeding frenzy for crumbs on the sidewalk and whole pieces on the windowsill.

Out the window I throw at least eight cut up slices of bread every day in winter for my birdy friends, then I shut the window tightly. Bird TV has begun. My two kitties’ arrange themselves like statues in front of the window and I sipping tea sit at my table and watch the show.

Bobbing and weaving and fighting and cooperating birds muscling around for their fair share of free bread. The kitties try and pounce at the chubby and plump starlings. After realizing they can’t get through the window they sit and watch.

This is our everyday morning routine. Me and my two cats and a show of feathers, wings, little legs and beaks. Brown and black and gold and yellow colors.  Chirping voices remind me of the freedom to fly, the hardships overcome and willingness to be brave.

For as long as I live here, I will feed my bird friends every day and enjoy their entertainment. Tweet, tweet, chirp, chirp.

Thoughtful Thursday #203 – International Women’s Day 2018

Standard

There are thousands of events going on around the world today celebrating women. I think that’s great.

However, being a woman, every day, is always a celebration. If you don’t feel you can celebrate and honor being female, it’s time to do an inventory of your strengths as a person. Some inventory will be exclusive to being female, some inventory will be for males and females.

Here’s some examples of an inventory of strengths:

  1. Birthing children and raising them.
  2. Courage.
  3. Being an explorer.
  4. Learning, teaching, loving, earning.
  5. Assertive, strong, bravery, honesty, kindness.
  6. Fairness, perseverance, creativity.

This is a very short list of strengths women contribute to the world.

So make your own personal list, I am sure it will be a lot longer than this one.

And I would like to thank all the men who support women. It’s time for teamwork to make a better, more peaceful and progressive world.

Thoughtful Thursdays – #190 – Multi-layered

Standard

People are multi-layered. What you see on the surface is a thimble full of information. Society doesn’t allow full expression of who we are. We have roles to play. Worker, parent, listener, activator.

Oppression of free expression and a general sense of uncertainty is the reason that people flock to religion and large groups looking for answers about this uncertainty that can only be gotten by self-examination.  We are lost in trying to fit and  there’s a nagging knowing and feeling that something is not quite right.

That nagging feeling is your real self. Your higher self, your true self, your core self, knocking at you to pay attention to your own deep-seated needs. Stop thinking, stop grasping, stop being busy and just listen to what your true self is telling you. This is the deepest layer of who you are, where the information you need to expand yourself is.

Becoming aware on this level is not easy. It’s a re-patterning of old habits. You are changing your brain. It is a slow arduous journey that happens in small steps that are so subtle you may not recognize a change right away.

Your bravery for uncovering the many layers you carry will be well rewarded. This journey is ongoing, the learning about oneself never stops, and the bonus is you will understand yourself better and others just as well.

Thoughtful Thursdays # 101 – Bravery

Standard

True bravery is letting go of what is familiar.

True bravery is trying new things.

True bravery is living closest to your heart’s calling.

True bravery is leaving what is not working.

True bravery is telling yourself the truth.

True bravery is no following the crowd.

There are many reasons to stay stuck, to get unstuck start small. The change will feel uncomfortable. That’s OK. Just sit with it.
